Senator Galgiani and Assemblymember Cooper Announce Press Conference with CMTA & Cal Tax
on Legislation to Promote Manufacturing Job Growth
Sacramento, CA -- Assemblyman Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove) and Senator Cathleen Galgiani (D-Stockton) will hold a press conference Monday, April 24, at 10 a.m. on the west steps of the Capitol to discuss their legislation to help California attract and retain manufacturing and production jobs.
"The loss of 1,100 jobs from Aerojet’s relocation reminds us that manufacturers have choices where to invest and create good jobs. This legislation is an important step to immediately improve our ability to attract manufacturing to the state,” Assemblyman Cooper said.
“California’s existing program has had a positive impact, but problems with the legislation have made it impossible for some employers to utilize the partial sales tax exemption,” Senator Galgiani said. “It is vital that we fix the problems, to protect Californians who work in manufacturing.”
Their twin bills, AB 600 and SB 600, will improve and expand a partial sales tax exemption for manufacturing and R&D equipment, created by the Legislature and Governor four years ago. AB 600 is scheduled to be heard April 24 in the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee and SB 600 is scheduled to be heard April 26 in the Senate Governance and Finance Committee.
The lawmakers will be joined at the press conference by California Taxpayers Association President Teresa Casazza and California Manufacturers & Technology Association President Dorothy Rothrock. CalTax and CMTA are cosponsors of the legislation.
