Galgiani Legislation Targeting Dangerous Synthetic Drugs Clears Key Senate Panel

Sacramento— In Tuesday’s Senate Public Safety Committee hearing Senator Cathleen Galgiani (D-Stockton) presented Senate Bill 139, which will aide law enforcement in the protection of our communities from synthetic drugs. In a follow-up to her previous legislation from 2014 which created the penalty structure for the possession of a synthetic drug, Galgiani is pursuing SB 139 in order to assist with the enforcement of the law.

Dear Chairperson Nichols:

I write to express reservations about a CARB staff proposal to greatly expand the volume and nature of the information OBD systems will be required to collect and that could be retrieved by the government or third parties.

At the outset, I note existing OBD systems are highly successful. The emission systems of modern cars are extraordinarily clean. In fact, CARB states that emissions of pollutants from light-duty vehicles have been reduced by 99.7%. Given this success, why would CARB propose anything that may jeopardize this progress?

Galgiani Resolution Declares June Disability Awareness Month

SACRAMENTO - Senator Galgiani is pleased to announce, today, SCR 53, which declares the month of June, 2015 as Disability Awareness Month passed the Assembly Floor. This resolution highlights the over 4 million California residents living with a disability. Senator Galgiani authored this resolution following the lead of several local municipalities, who have recognized the contribution of individuals with disabilities in their communities.

Galgiani Date Rape Drug Legislation Passes Senate Floor

SACRAMENTO—Today, Senator Cathleen Galgiani presented Senate Bill 333 on the Senate Floor. This bill will help rectify an unintended consequence of Proposition 47 by creating penalties for the possession of “date rape” drugs. In the November 2014 elections, voters passed Proposition 47 which reclassified many crimes from felonies to misdemeanors.

Sacramento – SB 251 by Senator Richard Roth (D-Riverside) and principal co-author Senator Cathleen Galgiani (D-Manteca) passed the Senate floor today by a vote of 40 to 0. SB 251 will make a number of changes to assist small businesses in complying with ADA requirements.

USDA Increases Support for Fight Against Invasive Aquatic Plants in Delta

 

A partnership of county, state, and federal agencies, as well as allied boating and water resource protection interests, to improve control of invasive aquatic plants in the Delta has led to $1 million in new funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS), Areawide Pest Management Program, county and state officials announced this week.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY CALTRANS TO BEGIN $9 MILLION DOLLAR PAVEMENT REHABILITATION AND REPAIR PROJECT ON STATE ROUTE 12 IN SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY San Joaquin County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin a $9 million dollar pavement rehabilitation and repair project on State Route 12 (SR-12). This project will improve the driving surface from the Potato Slough Bridge to Flag City. The project will replace rumble strips, re-construct guardrails and apply an asphalt concrete overlay to the roadway. Construction is slated to begin June 1, 2015.

STOCKTON – Senator Cathleen Galgiani today announced that she is sponsoring a contemporary art competition for California State Senate District 5.

Senator Galgiani will select the winning work of art that best represents the district. The winning artist will have their artwork displayed in the State Capitol as part of the California Contemporary Art Collection.
