RE:          Video and Materials of Press Conference asking Governor to Overturn Parole of Ronald Ray Anderson

At an afternoon press conference today, State Senator Cathleen Galgiani was joined by Stanislaus and San Joaquin county law enforcement officials along with friends and family members of murder victims Phil and Kathryn Ranzo, to ask Governor Jerry Brown to overturn the parole of Ronald Ray Anderson.

Anderson, one of four perpetrators convicted in the 1979 slaying of Phil and Kathryn Ranzo at their Modesto home, was recently granted parole during a December 27th hearing.

In a letter sent to the Governor earlier this week, Galgiani described the murder as “nothing more than a thrill killing,” since during the crime, the Ranzos were bound helpless, brutally beaten, violated and stabbed to death while their house was ransacked.

During today’s press conference, Galgiani pointed out that “if robbery was the sole purpose of their actions, then Phil and Kathryn Ranzo would still be alive today.”

Joining Galgiani at today’s press conference were: Birgit Fladager, Stanislaus County District Attorney; John Goold, Stanislaus District Attorney’s Office;  former Stanislaus Deputy District Attorney Elizabeth DeJong – now with San Joaquin County; Froilan Mariscal, Stanislaus District Attorney Investigations Bureau, Sandy Ranzo (sister of Phil Ranzo),  Mark Ranzo and friends of the family.
