Sen. Galgiani's response to the California Natural Resources Agency’s announcement on the state’s formal withdrawal from the WaterFix project.
Senator Cathleen Galgiani (D-Stockton) released the following statement in response to the California Natural Resources Agency’s announcement on the state’s formal withdrawal from the WaterFix project.
“I appreciate Governor Newsom’s more thoughtful approach to addressing California’s water needs and for downsizing the “WaterFix” twin tunnels approach to a single manageable tunnel. His decision not only protects the integrity of our precious Delta, and our water quality, but it opens the door for a more cooperative sharing of water resources that doesn’t come at the devastation of one community for the benefit of another. Furthermore, it saves $5 billion from water users’ pocketbooks. Certainly, opponents of the twin tunnels, like myself, will need to see what the next steps in this long controversial project will look like, but at least today we’re all raising our water glasses in a toast to the Governor’s willingness to hear us, hear our concerns and to act on them for the interest of all Californians.”
