Jerry McNerney Sworn in as State Senator for District 5
Senator Jerry McNerney on Monday was sworn in to the California State Senate during the first official day of the 2025-26 Regular Session.
“I am deeply honored today to join the California state Senate and to represent Senate District 5, which includes San Joaquin County and the Tri-Valley area of Alameda County,” said Senator McNerney, D-Pleasanton. “I am also deeply thankful to the voters of District 5 for putting their trust in me and am eager to hit the ground running with legislative proposals that will expand California’s use of clean energy, devise commonsense solutions to the state’s water issues, and adopt responsible guardrails for artificial intelligence. I am also proud to stand with Governor Gavin Newsom and Senate President Pro Tem Mike McGuire in their call for California to be a national bulwark against potential adverse federal actions that may seek to weaken our climate goals and erode civil rights.”
Senate President pro Tempore McGuire led the convening session that officially began the upcoming two-year legislative session. Senator McNerney was sworn into office by the Honorable Patricia Guerrero, Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court. Following the Oath of Office Program, Senator McNerney’s invitees, Pro Tem McGuire, current State Senators, other dignitaries, and constituents from the Senator’s district and across California congratulated the incoming State Senators on the Senate Floor and from the Senate Gallery.
