Good morning,
I wanted to send along an update on what I have been working on in Sacramento and some key priorities in the state budget.
I'll start with some important investments for Senate District 5. This year we secured:
- $54 million for a new classroom building at the CSU Stanislaus campus in Stockton
- $5 million for a Multi-Generation community center in Tracy
- $5 million for Modesto infrastructure projects
- $2 million for a project in Riverbank to combat homelessness
- $5.4 million for Stockton Aquatics to get our pools fixed for our kids
I'm also very proud of some significant statewide investments. This year serving as the budget chair for Health and Human Services has been a humbling and enlightening experience, and I am proud of our investment in the dignity and respect for human beings. Some highlights:
- $4 billion+ over five years to establish a modern and innovative behavioral health system for youth
- $2.2 billion+ to expand the community continuum of behavioral health treatment, including $150 million to support mobile crisis teams
- $200 million+ in aid for California Food Banks
I've also focused on mental health, health, and safety with my legislative priorities this year. I've authored bills to provide the proven assisted outpatient treatment model as step-down care from mental health hospitalizations, make permanent and improve the End of Life Options Act in California to provide peace and dignity to those at the end of their lives, and to establish a rare disease council to voice the needs of rare disease patients and families in state government decisions. I'm also working to ensure that firearms are removed from those with domestic violence restraining orders to prevent more horrific intimate partner killings, and to prevent sexual harassment and assault in the military.
These are just a few of the things I've been working on, in addition to the thousands of constituent calls regarding unemployment benefits, questions about rental and utility assistance programs, and much more. This last year and a half has been unlike anything we've experienced in the past, but I am so proud of how the community has come together to get through. We still have some recovering to do, but things certainly feel a lot brighter than they did last summer.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, and feel free to contact my office if you have any questions about these priorities or how we can assist you.
Sincerely,
Susan Talamantes Eggman
Senator, 5th District
