More than $158M secured for Delta levees, State Water Project

The California Legislative Delta Caucus secured $158.2 million for Delta levees and the State Water Project this week.

Of that, $90.2 million will protect the Delta and fortify its aging levees, and another $68 million will safeguard the State Water Project’s California Aqueduct and canals, which are being undermined by the overdrafting of groundwater.

“Today’s vote was truly historic. California’s water wars may finally be over,” said State Sen. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, who co-chairs the caucus with Assemblywoman Lori D. Wilson, D-Suisun City. “But we’re not done. This historic investment is just a down payment. In the years to come, we need to continue to protect California’s primary supply of freshwater.”
