Newsom signs executive order to speed up AI regulations and creation of ‘kill switch’

Senate Bill 813 by Sen. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, with a 2028 implementation date, creates a statewide framework governing how independent AI organizations are formed and requires annual transparency reports from the organizations.

Newsom’s executive order ramps up the timeline for both bills: SB813 will now be implemented on May 1, 2027.
