Reining In Big Tech: How California lawmakers plan to regulate AI and social media
National and state union leaders have urged California legislators and Newsom to protect workers from being replaced by AI, saying it posed an existential threat to the foundation of a healthy, productive democracy.
“AI must remain a tool controlled by humans, not the other way around,” said Sen. Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton).
The state Legislature on Monday approved McNerney’s Senate Bill 947, which would bar employers from “solely” using automated decision-making systems to discipline or fire employees. If an employer primarily relies upon this system, a human must verify the decision.
