Sen. McNerney Congratulates Nancy Pelosi on Her Announced Retirement

California State Sen. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, issued the following statement on U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s announced retirement today:

“I want to express my deepest thanks to my friend and former longtime colleague Nancy Pelosi on her unparalleled career serving our country and congratulate her on her announced retirement. A political icon and a trailblazer – she was the nation’s first female speaker of the House. It was my honor to serve alongside her for 16 years in Congress and to pass historic legislation, including the Affordable Care Act, consumer protection reforms, and landmark investments in clean energy and the fight against climate change. No one worked harder than Nancy Pelosi, no one understood politics better than Nancy Pelosi. Moreover, Nancy was a gracious woman who always had time to listen, no matter who you were or what political party you were in. She not only was the most consequential speaker in our nation’s history, she was one of the very best.”

Sen. Jerry McNerney is chair of the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee and his 5th Senate District includes all of San Joaquin County and Alameda County’s Tri-Valley.
